Inauguration of Tobacco Cessation Centre

The Department of Community Medicine in coordination with Department of Psychiatry had arranged inauguration of Tobacco Cessation Centre. This was undertaken as a part of mandate under the aegis of ‘Youth against Tobacco Campaign 2.0’prescribed by National Medical Commission and Tobacco Control program, Dept of Health and Family Welfare, MoHFW, Government of India. Prior to this, an online webinar was undertaken to all medical colleges and in due to course, Dr.Venkatesh.P, Professor, Dept of Community Medicine was made the in-charge for running the Centre by Dr.Raghuram.V, Professor and Head,Dept of Community Medicine & Dr.Gangadhara K.S., Dean-cum- Principal, BGSMCH, Nagarur.

The planning and preparations were undertaken in creation of a banner, identification of a site in 2nd floor, OPD block, hospital building with suitable place for registration, counselling rooms and patient sitting arrangements. Necessary stationeries were kept ready. Dr.Gangadhara K.S, Dean-cum-Principal, Dr.Krishnamurthy, Chief of Hospital, Dr.Raghuram V, Professor and Head, Dept of Community Medicine and Dr. Pooja Raikar, Dept of Psychiatry, Dr.Venkatesh.P, Professor and In-charge of Tobacco Cessation Centre along with other faculties of Dept of Community Medicine, Psychiatry, Dept of Dentistry and Clinical Psychologist other field staff were invited to grace the occasion. A dedicated team of 4 personnel were framed as per the mandate which comprised of a Psychiatrist, Clinicals psychologist and Medical social worker along with the In-charge of the centre. Around 11.40 am, as per the schedule allocated, the dignitaries arrived and inaugurated the centre.

Brief talks were given, and the online inauguration was relayed to the authorities. We adhered to the prescription of the event as per NMC mandate relayed through web-streaming from New Delhi. Subsequently, the pleasantries were exchanged and hoped to start the service at the earliest. Faculties of Dept of Community Medicine, Psychiatry and other staff were present to witness the occasion. The event closed by signing National Anthem.
