World Leprosy day observed on 31st January at Diploma college, Abbhigere

World Leprosy Day was observed on 31st January at Diploma college Abbhigere, by the Department of Community Medicine and Primary Health Centre , Abbhigere. The theme for World Leprosy Day 2025, as designated by the World Health Organization, was “Unite, Act, and Eliminate.”
Dr. Sindhu Shankar S, Assistant Professor from the Department of Community Medicine, addressed the students, emphasizing the deeper significance behind this year’s theme. She also discussed the global and national prevalence of leprosy, highlighting the critical need for its eradication. She also provided an in-depth explanation of the causative agent responsible for leprosy, its transmission, the symptoms experienced by patients and Stigma associated with it. Byregowda from Primary Health Centre informed students regarding the treatment options available through the Government of India. He further stressed that leprosy is a completely curable disease, provided that the prescribed treatment regimen is followed.
