Report on the Family Adoption Program for MBBS Batch 2024-25

The Department of Community Medicine at BGS Medical College Hospital, has launched the “Family Adoption Program” for the first batch of MBBS students (Batch 2024-25). The program aims to engage medical students in practical, community-oriented experiences, fostering an understanding of rural healthcare challenges and building a strong rapport with the local communities. The chosen rural areas for this program are Nagarur, Nagarur Colony, Dasanapura, and Pillahalli, which are situated near the medical college.

Program Structure: Each of the 150 students from MBBS Batch 2024-25 was assigned to adopt three families from the four rural areas—Nagarur, Nagarur Colony, Dasanapura, and Pillahalli. The students were responsible for learning about the healthcare needs, challenges, and living conditions of their attached families. To ensure the success of the program, faculty members from the Department of Community Medicine, along with tutors and medico-social workers, accompanied the students on their visits.

Activities During the Visit: Students had the opportunity to interact with the families, build meaningful rapport, and clearly explain the purpose of the Family Adoption Program. Through these interactions, they were able to establish trust,  and emphasize the program’s goal of fostering long-term community engagement and improving health awareness.
