The Kannada Rajyotsava celebration at BGS Medical College Hospital on 23rd November 2024 was a vibrant event that showcased the rich heritage of Karnataka and highlighted the significance of the Kannada language. The event comprised a formal session followed by cultural performances by the MBBS students of the 2024-25 batch.

Formal Session Highlights: The formal event commenced with an invocation song by MBBS Student, Shreya and her group, invoking blessings for a successful celebration. The whole gathering stood up while the students sang Naada Geethe with respect for the motherland and mother tongue, Kannada. Dr. Nagashree M.V., Professor and Head of the Anatomy Department, delivered the welcome address, extending a warm greeting to all attendees. The programme was inaugurated by by the lighting of the lamp by dignitaries. Following this, Dr. Anusha M N Senior Resident, Department of Psychiatry introduced the chief guest, Dr. C.R. Chandrashekhar, a well known senior psychiatrist, Kannada medical writer, and Padmashree awardee, whose presence elevated the event. In his inspiring guest speech, Dr. Chandrashekhar emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Kannada in various fields, including medicine. He also lauded the efforts of BGS Medical College Hospital in fostering cultural pride among its students. The formal session continued with a felicitation ceremony honoring the chief guest, followed by address and interactive session from the Dr. Gangadhara KS, Principal and Dean based on Kannada Literature and Poetry.The Chief Of Hospital, Dr. Krishnamurthy VR highlighted the institution’s commitment to integrating cultural awareness into medical education.  Dr. Shilpa, Professor of Physiology, concluded the session with a heartfelt vote of thanks.

Cultural Performances:  The cultural segment featured mesmerizing performances by MBBS students, reflecting their creativity and cultural pride.  Group dances celebrated the vibrant traditions of Karnataka through synchronized moves and expressive storytelling. A group song beautifully blended old and contemporary Kannada melodies, captivating the audience. A thought-provoking skit depicted the importance of the Kannada language, resonating deeply with the attendees.The highlight of the evening was a Bharatanatyam dance performance, gracefully portraying the pivotal role of doctors in society. The event was a grand success, combining academic rigor with cultural richness, leaving a lasting impression on all participants and attendees.
