Dr. Sushma Krishna, Assistant Professor of Microbiology, was invited as a resource person to deliver a talk on the Role of Diagnostic Laboratories in Antimicrobial Stewardship Implementation on the 28th of March at MVJ Medical College & Research Hospital, Bangalore.
The talk focussed on the newer platforms in diagnostics that are being used in clinical practice and how diagnostic stewardship can improve diagnostic accuracy, optimize treatment, and improve overall patient outcomes. The talk also involved the Microbiologist’s role in selective reporting of antibiotics, sample collection, interpretation of cultures, and antimicrobial tests, and emphasized moving from monitoring Turn Around Time (TAT) to Time To Intervention (TTI) by seeking rapid diagnostic tests.
In this era of burgeoning antibiotic resistance, the talk concluded with the message to use laboratory tests smartly for judicious and responsible use of antibiotics towards conserving antibiotics for future generations.
